Asheville Affordable Housing Opportunity Study

Client: City of Asheville

Location: Asheville, North Carolina

Contribution: Principal-in-Charge, Lead Urban Designer, Stakeholder Engagement Strategist, and lead designer for site test fits and three-dimensional massing studies. Directed project strategy and conceived the comparative visual evaluation tools used throughout the planning process.

This study evaluated three City-owned sites for their potential to support future affordable housing development. Urban design, community engagement, and financial feasibility were combined to prioritize investments from the City's Affordable Housing Trust Fund and establish a realistic path toward implementation.

Comparative site evaluations, test fits, three-dimensional massing studies, and financial modeling explored the tradeoffs between density, affordability, and public subsidy, ultimately identifying the two most viable sites and informing a developer solicitation for the highest-priority site, where the first phases have since been completed.

Project completed while at Lord Aeck Sargent. Financial modelling led by KB Advisory Group.
